Why did God kill Uzzah when he touched the ark?

Answered in 1 source

Uzzah was struck down because he violated God's command regarding how the ark was to be handled.

The account of Uzzah's death is a sobering reminder of God's holiness and the seriousness of His commands. When Uzzah reached out to steady the ark, he disregarded the law that specified only the Levites could carry it, and they were to do so using the poles designed for that purpose (Exodus 25:14). His improper action illustrated a lack of reverence for God's holiness and the seriousness of approaching Him in the right way. This story emphasizes that sincere worship must align with God's ordained order, and any deviation can result in grave consequences.
