Why do believers sometimes question where God is?

Answered in 1 source

Believers may question God's presence due to trials, struggles, or the pressures of life.

It's not uncommon for believers to question, 'Where is God?' in moments of distress or suffering, similar to the psalmist's experiences. The reality of trials can lead to feelings of abandonment or doubt, as expressed in Psalm 42:3 where the psalmist laments over the taunting question of the ungodly asking, 'Where is your God?' These moments of questioning reflect our human frailty and our old nature, which can bring about doubt even in the hearts of the faithful. However, the believer is reminded that God's grace sustains us during these trials, and He remains present, offering comfort and assurance through His Word and community, helping us to persevere even when circumstances seem overwhelming.
