Why do Christians need to confess their sins?

Answered in 1 source

Confession of sin restores fellowship with God and acknowledges our need for His grace.

The need for confession among Christians stems from our ongoing struggle with sin even after coming to faith. As stated in 1 John 1:8-9, if we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, but if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Confession is vital because it not only acknowledges our imperfections but also re-establishes our fellowship with God. By confessing, we demonstrate humility and reliance on God's grace, recognizing that our salvation and continued standing with Him are contingent upon Christ's redemptive work, not our own merit.
