Why do Christians need to follow the commands of Jesus?

Answered in 1 source

Following the commands of Jesus is an expression of our love for Him and an essential element of genuine faith (John 14:15).

In John 14:15, Jesus states, "If you love me, keep my commandments." This illustrates the intrinsic connection between love for Christ and obedience to His commands. Genuine faith expresses itself through our actions and aligns with the teachings of Christ. It is not solely about adhering to a set of rules; rather, it is about nurturing a relationship where obedience stems from heartfelt love for our Savior. As per 1 John 3:23, the commandment to believe in the name of Jesus and to love one another encapsulates the essence of Christian life. To obey is to live out the faith that has been granted to us, demonstrating our commitment to His lordship and our identity as His followers.
