Why do people fall back into sin after they seem to cleanse their lives?

Answered in 1 source

People may return to sin because mere external efforts do not satisfy the need for true transformation found only in Christ.

The danger of returning to sin is highlighted in Luke 11:24-25. When the unclean spirit returns to a house that is merely swept clean but devoid of Christ, the situation is worse than before. People often attempt to clean up their lives by external actions—quitting bad habits or conforming to religious appearances—without experiencing true heart transformation through Christ. This signifies that spiritual reformation without regeneration can lead to a more perilous state as the individual remains spiritually empty and susceptible to worse influences. True salvation involves Christ dwelling within the believer, providing lasting change and strength to resist sin, rather than relying on our own self-efforts.
