Why do people not know God?

Answered in 1 source

People do not know God due to spiritual blindness and their natural inclination to sin as described in Scripture.

The Bible indicates that many people do not know God because of inherent spiritual blindness and an inclination towards sin. Romans 3:11 states, 'There is none who seeks after God,' underscoring that, by nature, humanity is disinclined to pursue the divine. Sin has clouded the understanding of God, making Him unknown to many, just as Paul notes in Acts 17 when addressing the Athenians who had idols for unknown gods. Without God's revelation and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, individuals remain in darkness regarding the true nature of God.
