Why do people struggle to believe in God?

Answered in 1 source

People struggle to believe in God due to sin, pride, and the desire to control their understanding of Him.

Many people struggle to believe in God because they are influenced by their sinful nature and pride, which drives them to create a version of God that is manageable and similar to themselves. This notion is highlighted in Psalm 50:21, where God addresses humanity's mistaken assumption that He is like them. Additionally, human reasoning can lead to questioning God's ways, especially when they conflict with personal desires or human understanding. The inability to grasp the full magnitude of God's actions can also result in skepticism, as noted in Romans 1:20, where Paul explains that God's invisible attributes are clearly perceived, meaning that denial of His sovereignty is unwarranted. Thus, the challenge lies in accepting God as He reveals Himself in Scripture, rather than as we might prefer Him to be.
