Why do some Christians struggle to rest in Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Many struggle to rest in Christ due to a tendency to rely on their own works or to hold onto the idea of self-generated righteousness.

Christians often struggle to rest in Christ for several reasons, primarily the inherent human inclination to rely on personal efforts and achievements for salvation. The writer of Hebrews cautions against falling back into the old patterns of self-justification, as seen in the Jewish community that clung to the law and sacrifices rather than embracing the grace found in Christ. This struggle is compounded by the fear of letting go of control over one’s spiritual life, fearing that true dependence on Christ could lead to uncertainty or vulnerability. However, through faith, believers are called to abandon their attempts at self-righteousness to fully embrace the peace and assurance that comes from resting in the finished work of Christ, which is the true basis for our acceptance before God.
