Why do some Christians struggle with doubts about their assurance?

Answered in 1 source

Doubts often arise when believers focus on themselves rather than on Christ, leading to insecurity.

Many Christians experience doubts regarding their assurance because they tend to fixate on their own feelings, actions, and performance rather than on the unchanging nature of Christ. As stated in the sermon, assurance disappears when sought after directly, for true confidence grows from focusing on Christ and His gospel. When believers look inwardly, they open themselves to the uncertainties of their own faith. On the contrary, when they rest in Christ—understanding that salvation is His work—they find the assurance that comes from relying on His promises, which cannot fail.
