Why do some people believe while others do not?

Answered in 2 sources

Some believe because they have been given a new heart by God, while others do not due to their sinful nature and lack of God's grace.

The differing responses to the gospel can be attributed to God's sovereign grace and the condition of the human heart. Those who believe have been touched by grace, as indicated in Acts 13:48 which states, 'As many as were ordained to eternal life believed.' This suggests that God's election and the work of the Holy Spirit in an individual are essential for unlocking faith. In contrast, those who do not believe are left in their sin, unable to respond to the truth due to the corruption of their nature, as explained in John 8:44, where Jesus identifies the unbelievers as children of the devil. Thus, belief is a result of God’s work in the heart, making some receptive to His truth while others remain in darkness.
