Why do the heathen oppose God according to Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

The heathen oppose God because they desire autonomy and refuse to submit to His authority.

The rebellion of the heathen is deeply rooted in a desire for autonomy, as they crave to be the captains of their own souls. This opposition is evident in their rejection of God's commandments and the gospel, choosing instead to follow their own paths. Psalm 2 portrays this defiance as they collectively declare, 'Let us break their bands asunder.' Their agitated state stems from the conviction that they can sever the cords of God's law and freedom, which to them feel restrictive. Their opposition, thus, isn't merely against His people but ultimately against God's sovereign rule, which they find irksome.
