Why do we experience dissatisfaction in worldly pursuits?

Answered in 1 source

Worldly pursuits lead to dissatisfaction because they can never fully satisfy the deep thirst of the soul.

Scripture reveals that the pursuits of this world, such as wealth, fame, and pleasure, are ultimately unfulfilling. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon reflects on his own experience, stating that everything is vanity and pursuing these things leads to a vexation of spirit. The reason for this dissatisfaction lies in the fact that humans were designed for a relationship with God, and when this divine purpose is not fulfilled, everything else falls short. Jesus highlights this truth in John 4 when He tells the Samaritan woman that those who drink the water of this world will thirst again. Only the living water He provides can quench the soul's thirst completely and sustain eternal joy.
