Why do we love God?

Answered in 1 source

We love God because He first loved us, initiating our relationship with Him (1 John 4:19).

Our love for God is a response to His prior love for us. As stated in 1 John 4:19, we love Him because He first loved us. This verse encapsulates the theological truth that our affection and devotion to God are rooted in His gracious initiative. He does not wait for us to love Him; instead, He actively pursues us, creating the very love in our hearts that allows us to respond to Him. This reciprocal relationship is vital in forming a robust faith, driving us to worship Him with our lives and to fulfill His commandments, not out of fear or obligation but as an expression of our gratitude for His overwhelming love.
