Why do we need a change of mind about sin?

Answered in 1 source

A change of mind about sin is essential for embracing God’s grace and recognizing our need for His forgiveness.

To genuinely understand our need for salvation, we must have a change of mind regarding sin. This repentance involves rejecting the notion that we can earn forgiveness through personal merit or good works—this is the essence of salvation by works. Instead, we must embrace the truth that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and that true repentance leads us to acknowledge our helplessness and rely completely on Christ’s sacrifice for pardon. This change of heart is vital in moving from self-reliance to grace-reliance, a cornerstone of sovereign grace theology.
