Why do we need to confess our sins if we are already forgiven?

Answered in 1 source

Confessing sins acknowledges our ongoing need for grace and helps maintain our relationship with God.

Even though Christ has secured total forgiveness for His followers, believers are called to confess their sins regularly. This daily confession acknowledges the reality of sin remaining within us and recognizes our need for continual grace. As described in 1 John 1:9, confession leads to cleansing and restoration in our relationship with God. The practice of regular confession also fosters humility and reminds believers of their dependence on God’s mercy, not just at the moment of salvation but throughout their daily lives. Thus, while the legal debt of sin is paid, the Christian walk requires a continual recognizing of sin’s presence and the necessity of God's forgiveness.
