Why do we need to seek mercy from God?

Answered in 1 source

Seeking mercy from God is essential because all humanity is under the weight of sin, and only through His mercy can we escape judgment (Psalm 130).

The necessity to seek mercy stems from the reality of judgment faced by all sinners as articulated in the Scriptures. Psalm 130 poignantly expresses this need: 'If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.' This highlights the understanding that none can stand righteous before God due to their sin, and the only avenue for deliverance is through His mercy. Recognizing our desperate condition leads us to seek His grace earnestly. It is through seeking mercy that we acknowledge our inability to save ourselves and rely wholly on Christ's sacrificial work. God’s willingness to show mercy to all who sincerely call upon Him reaffirms His abundant grace, which is central to the Reformed faith.
