Why do we pray if God is sovereign?

Answered in 1 source

We pray because God commanded us to, and He desires to hear from His people.

The question of why we pray if God is sovereign is addressed directly in the sermon. Although God's will is sovereign and unchangeable, He has also ordained means through which His purposes are fulfilled, one of which is prayer. God promises in Ezekiel 36 that He will be inquired of by His people, indicating that our prayers are important to Him. Our prayers do not alter God's plans, but they demonstrate our faith, dependence, and obedience. Thus, we pray not only to present our requests but also to build our relationship with God and fulfill His command to communicate with Him.
