Why do we struggle to perceive ourselves as needy before God?

Answered in 1 source

Many struggle to perceive their neediness due to pride and self-deception about their moral condition.

The struggle to acknowledge our deepest neediness often stems from pride and a misunderstanding of our moral state. People often fear vulnerability and prefer to project an appearance of self-sufficiency and righteousness. However, authentic self-awareness reveals that, apart from Christ, we possess nothing of true worth. Isaiah 40:15 reflects how even the mighty nations are 'as a drop in the bucket' to God, emphasizing the insignificance of our self-styled righteousness. When we confront the truth of who we are—spiritually bankrupt sinners—we open ourselves up to the reality of God's grace and the good news the preacher stresses that 'the Lord thinketh upon me.' This requires us to abandon our delusions of adequacy and cling to the Savior's grace.
