Why do we struggle with knowing God's will in prayer?

Answered in 1 source

We struggle because we often pray from our own desires rather than seeking God's will.

In Romans 8:26, Paul explains that 'we know not what we should pray for as we ought.' This indicates that our human perspective is limited and often clouded by our personal desires. When we pray, we might find ourselves asking God for what we think is best rather than seeking His will. True prayer involves submission to God's purposes, desiring to align our hearts with His. The Holy Spirit assists us by interceding with groanings that express our needs beyond our understanding, leading us to a better comprehension of God's will in our lives.
