Why does God allow trials and difficulties in our lives?

Answered in 1 source

God permits trials to strengthen our faith and demonstrate His sustaining grace.

Trials and difficulties in a believer's life are often a means through which God refines and strengthens faith. Romans 8:28 assures us that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. This means that even hardships serve a divine purpose, allowing believers to lean more on God, grow in dependence on Him, and witness His faithfulness. Just as Jacob faced numerous trials but ultimately found God's faithfulness in every circumstance, Christians today are reassured that God's presence is with them even in their darkest moments. Ultimately, trials can deepen our relationship with the Lord and strengthen our assurance of His promises.
