Why does God condemn false religion?

Throughout the book of Hosea, God expresses His vehement opposition to false religion and idolatry, which ultimately leads His people astray. False religion promotes a deceptive narrative that minimizes God's holiness, justice, and the seriousness of sin. In chapter 4, God has a controversy with Israel due to their lack of knowledge and mercy, which is a direct consequence of their engagement in false worship.
