Why does God create wickedness?

Answered in 1 source

God allows wickedness to exist to display His justice and to ultimately glorify Himself (Romans 9:22-23).

The existence of wickedness and the allowance of evil serve a divine purpose in God's sovereign plan. Romans 9:22-23 illustrates that God, in His sovereignty, endures vessels of wrath fitted for destruction to demonstrate His power and wrath, while also manifesting His mercy to the vessels prepared for glory. This means that even the wicked are part of God's overall plan, as their existence allows for the full display of God's character, including His justice and mercy. Thus, God is never the author of sin, but the existence of evil serves to highlight the greatness of His grace and mercy towards His elect.
