Why does God hate pride according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

God hates pride because it is a direct opposition to His nature and leads to spiritual destruction.

The Scriptures declare that pride is fundamentally opposed to God's character, as it elevates self over God's sovereign will. Proverbs 16:5 states that everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord. This divine aversion arises from pride's origin as the root of all rebellion against God, beginning with Satan's desire to ascend above God (Isaiah 14:12-14). Pride leads to the delusion of self-sufficiency, which obstructs true fellowship with God and His grace. It blinds individuals to their true condition before a holy God, leading to destruction. Consequently, God actively resists the proud by withholding His grace, essential for spiritual growth and salvation, and instead, bestows grace upon the humble.
