Why does it seem the church today is self-righteous?

Answered in 1 source

The self-righteousness prevalent among believers today reflects a misunderstanding of grace and the seriousness of sin.

Self-righteousness has been identified as a primary issue in both Malachi's time and our current age. This tendency leads many to believe they can earn God's favor through their actions and moral standing. The danger of this mindset is that it promotes a false sense of security, obscuring the need for true repentance and reliance on Christ's righteousness. The church’s challenge is to reflect on their condition accurately and to embrace the full weight of God’s grace that transforms, rather than relying on performative religion that ultimately robs God of His glory.
