Why does love to God matter more than knowledge?

Answered in 1 source

Love to God is seen as the greatest commandment and builds up community, while mere knowledge can lead to pride (1 Corinthians 8:1).

The Apostle Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 8:1 that while knowledge is essential, it has the potential to lead to arrogance and puffed-up pride, 'Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.' This indicates that love is the true measure of our relationship with God and each other. Love transcends knowledge by fostering humility and community, engaging individuals in meaningful relationships rather than mere intellectualism. In true Sovereign Grace theology, love to God, fueled by His love for us, is the chief motivation for all aspects of Christian living, serving and edifying both ourselves and our fellow believers. Thus, love becomes the defining characteristic by which true discipleship is gauged.
