Why does physical sickness not indicate God's displeasure?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible indicates that both sickness and health are part of God's providence and not necessarily signs of His judgment.

As Greg Elmquist notes in the sermon, physical sickness can occur for various reasons and does not correlate directly with God's judgment or displeasure. Ecclesiastes 9:2 states, 'All things come alike to all; there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked.' This means that just because one is facing illness does not imply that they are living outside of God's favor. Christians should understand that their worth is defined by Christ's love, not by their physical condition. The focus must remain on God's grace and mercy rather than a punitive perspective on suffering.
