Why does the Bible say we cannot see God's face and live?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible states we cannot see God's face because of His holiness, which leads to death due to our sinful nature.

The biblical assertion that no man can see God's face and live stems from the intrinsic holiness of God. In Exodus 33:20, God tells Moses that no man can see His face and live due to His glorious and overwhelming purity. This holiness creates a chasm between God and sinful humanity. To see God in His full essence would be to experience utter destruction because of sin's presence in human nature. Thus, our only safe approach to God is through His Son, Jesus Christ, who mediates between a holy God and sinful man, allowing us to experience God through faith without experiencing destruction. It's through Christ that we can one day see God without fear of death.
