Why is a sense of sin important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

A proper sense of sin leads to acknowledgment of our need for God's grace and forgiveness.

Recognizing our sinfulness is fundamental to Christian faith and understanding our relationship with God. Psalm 32 highlights this by illustrating how the blessed man acknowledges his sin and is forgiven. Without a sense of our own sin, we cannot fully appreciate the grace of God through Christ. Conviction of sin stirs a desire for confession and facilitates the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, cultivating a deeper relationship with God. As Paul writes in Romans 3:23, 'For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.' This recognition is a precursor to repentance and the embrace of the Gospel, prompting us to seek the righteousness that comes from faith in Jesus Christ.
