Why is Abram considered a type of Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Abram is considered a type of Christ as he foreshadows the obedience, blessing, and covenant relationship that Christ embodies.

Abram serves as a type of Christ because he exemplifies the characteristics of faith, obedience, and covenant relationship that are fully realized in Jesus. Just as Abram was called out to be a blessing and to begin a new nation, Christ was sent into the world by the Father to bring eternal blessing to His people. Abram's journey from idolatry into the land of promise parallels Christ's journey from heaven to earth to redeem His people. Additionally, as Abram's name was changed from 'exalted father' to 'father of a multitude,' this foreshadows Christ's role as the Savior who brings a multitude to salvation, making Him the firstborn among many brethren.
