Why is asking God for understanding important?

Answered in 1 source

Asking God for understanding is vital as it enables us to grasp His truths and obey His commandments.

In Psalm 119:34, David pleads with God to give him understanding so that he may keep His law with his whole heart. This highlights a fundamental truth in sovereign grace theology: true comprehension of God's Word and His commandments comes from divine illumination. Without God’s teaching, we cannot truly understand the depth of His law or the grace offered through the gospel. This understanding leads to genuine obedience, motivating believers to live in accordance with God’s will, which reflects a deep, relational dependence on Him for spiritual insight and strength.
