Why is atonement necessary in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Atonement is necessary in Christianity because it addresses the fundamental issue of sin and restores the relationship between God and humanity.

Atonement is central to Christian belief as it deals directly with the problem of sin, which separates humanity from God. Through atonement, as exemplified in Leviticus 12, both male and female children born into this world require the same sacrifice to be cleansed from the singular issue of sin. Christ's atonement on the cross satisfies God's justice and opens the way for reconciliation with Him. Without atonement, there is no forgiveness, and without forgiveness, we remain alienated from our Creator. Understandably, this highlights the necessity of Christ's sacrificial death, which provides a complete and once-for-all solution for the uncleanness that affects us all.
