Why is baptism important in the Christian faith?

Answered in 1 source

Baptism is an important ordinance that symbolizes a believer’s identification with Christ and His work of salvation.

Baptism serves as an outward declaration of an inward change, representing a believer’s union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. In Romans 6:3-4, Paul emphatically states that through baptism we are buried with Christ and raised to walk in newness of life. This act is a public confession of faith, solidifying the believer's commitment to Christ. While the act of baptism is significant, the true cleansing comes through the blood of Christ, which is symbolically connected to the act of baptism as a representative reminder of what Christ has accomplished for us. Therefore, while baptism itself cannot save, it is a vital expression of one’s faith and commitment to the Lord.
