Why is being a sinner important for Christians to acknowledge?

Answered in 1 source

Acknowledging our sinfulness is essential for understanding God's grace and our need for salvation.

The acknowledgment of being a sinner before God is fundamental in Reformed theology. As Matthew referred to himself as 'Matthew the publican' even after being called by Christ, it highlights the importance of recognizing our past and the depth of our depravity. Ephesians 2:12 states that we were without Christ, having no hope and without God in the world. By understanding our sinful nature, we can fully appreciate the grace of God in Christ, as He saved us while we were dead in our sins, demonstrating His great love towards us.
