Why is being free from sin important for Christians?

Christians look forward to being free from sin primarily because sin represents a barrier in their relationship with God. The longing to be without sin is echoed in Psalm 17:15, where David expresses that he shall be satisfied when he awakens in God's likeness. This liberation from sin is part of the promise of eternal life, where believers no longer wrestle with their sinful nature.
