Why is being united with Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 9 sources

Being united with Christ is essential because it signifies our identity and security in Him, as we are spiritually seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).

Ephesians 2:6 teaches that God 'hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.' This union with Christ is pivotal, as it represents the spiritual reality of our identity as believers. Being united with Him means that His righteousness is imputed to us, providing both our justification and our status before God. Moreover, this union assures us of our salvation and eternal security, as we are viewed as one with Christ in all His completed work. This theological truth fosters a deeper understanding of grace, allowing believers to rest in the finished work of Christ rather than striving for acceptance through their efforts.
