Why is belief in Christ necessary rather than just good works?

Answered in 1 source

Belief in Christ is necessary because no amount of good works can fulfill God's perfect standard of holiness.

Belief in Christ is crucial because God's demand is perfection, which no person can achieve through good works alone. As stated in Romans 3:20, 'For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight.' Our righteousness, in comparison to God's holiness, is inadequate. Therefore, faith in Christ as our Savior, who fulfilled the law on our behalf, is the only way to attain justification and salvation. Without this faith, even the best deeds fail to secure eternal life.
