Why is believing in Christ essential for freedom from sin?

Answered in 1 source

Believing in Christ is essential as it is through Him that we are made free from the bondage of sin.

Belief in Christ is fundamental because faith is the means through which we access the grace of God that brings about transformation. According to John 8:30-32, Jesus highlights the necessity of continuing in His word for true discipleship, which results in knowing the truth that sets one free. Without faith in Christ, people remain in bondage to sin, blind to the reality of their condition and unable to free themselves. Isaiah 53:6 states that 'All we like sheep have gone astray,' illustrating our natural state of rebellion against God. However, those who believe in Christ experience a spiritual rebirth, enabling them to hate sin and desire righteousness. This change is evidence of true freedom granted by Christ.
