Why is believing in Jesus important for understanding God's love?

Answered in 1 source

Believing in Jesus is crucial because God's love is manifested only in Christ, making acceptance and grace possible.

Belief in Jesus is central because God's love is specifically directed towards those who are in Christ. According to Ephesians 1:6, He 'hath made us accepted in the beloved.' This acceptance is based on Christ's atoning work and obedience. Outside of Christ, there is no claim to God's love; instead, wrath abides. Therefore, understanding and accepting God's love means looking to Jesus, who is the embodiment of that love. It is through faith in Him that believers receive not only love but also the assurance of their eternal salvation.
