Why is casting away self-righteousness important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Casting away self-righteousness is crucial because it allows us to receive God's grace and be clothed in Christ’s righteousness.

In the narrative of blind Bartimaeus, his act of casting away his garment symbolizes the rejection of self-righteousness and the acknowledgment of his need for Christ. Just as Bartimaeus recognized that his garment, which represented self-justification, was worthless in the presence of Jesus, Christians too must understand that their own efforts and perceived goodness cannot merit salvation. Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that 'all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags' before God. Until we cast aside our attempts at self-justification, we cannot truly come to Christ and receive the righteousness that is found in Him alone. This act of faith is essential for true conversion and a relationship with God.
