Why is Christ called the Rock in the Bible?

Answered in 3 sources

Christ is referred to as the Rock because He is the steadfast foundation for salvation and the source of spiritual sustenance.

In Scripture, Christ is depicted as the Rock to emphasize His immutability and reliability as the foundation of faith. For example, in Psalm 18:2, David declares, 'The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.' This metaphor conveys that, unlike the shifting sands of human effort, Jesus provides a firm ground for believers in tumultuous times. Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 10:4 points out that 'that Rock was Christ,' indicating that He provides spiritual nourishment and sustenance. Just as water flowed from the rock in the wilderness, so too does Christ supply the living water of salvation to all who thirst for Him.
