Why is Christ central to the Gospel?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is central to the Gospel because it is the message of God's work through Him to save His people (Romans 1:1-3).

The Gospel is defined as the ‘Gospel of Christ’ because it centers entirely on who Jesus is and what He has accomplished for our salvation. Paul states in Romans 1:1-3 that he was separated unto the Gospel of God concerning His Son. Christ's incarnate life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection form the foundation of the Gospel message. It is through His work that sinners are reconciled to God. Any presentation of the Gospel that deviates from focusing on the person and work of Christ ceases to be the true Gospel, as only Christ's sacrifice can atone for sin and grant righteousness.
