Why is Christ considered our covering in the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is our covering because His righteousness shields us from God's judgment.

The concept of Christ as our covering is deeply rooted in Scripture. Just as Adam and Eve were clothed with coats of skin after their nakedness was exposed (Genesis 3:21), believers are dressed in the righteousness of Christ. Isaiah 61:10 states, 'He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has wrapped me in a robe of righteousness.' This robe signifies that through Christ, our sins are forgiven, and we are presented as righteous before God. When we approach God in faith, we are touching the hem of His garment, symbolizing our dependence on His righteousness for acceptance before the Holy God.
