Why is Christ considered our substitute for holiness?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is our substitute because He fulfills the law perfectly, providing His righteousness to those who believe.

Christ is our substitute for holiness because He met all of the demands of the law on our behalf. As stated in Scripture, Christ was tempted in every way yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15). His perfect obedience to the law and His sacrificial death allows believers to be viewed as righteous before God. The Reformed view teaches that believers are united with Christ, meaning His righteousness is imputed to them, allowing them to stand before God without blame. In essence, instead of relying on our imperfect efforts, we rest in the assurance of Christ's sufficient work.
