Why is Christ considered the foundation of the church?

Answered in 1 source

Christ is the foundation because He is the only surety and the cornerstone upon which the church is established.

In Isaiah 28:16, it says, 'Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation of stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.' This signifies that Christ is not only the foundation but also the tried and proven cornerstone that can be trusted. His life and works have been tested, and He is proven without sin. As believers, our acceptance and rest are not based on our works but wholly upon His righteousness and the merit of His sacrifice on behalf of His people. He stands as our surety, bearing the burden of our sins and ensuring our place in His church.
