Why is Christ described as the bread of life?

In John 6:35, Jesus declares, 'I am the bread of life.' This profound statement links back to the manna provided in the wilderness as a picture of His sustenance. Just as the manna physically fed the Israelites, Christ spiritually nurtures believers.
