Why is Christ referred to as our high priest?

Answered in 3 sources

Christ is our high priest because He entered the heavenly tabernacle with His own blood to obtain eternal redemption for us.

The concept of Christ as our high priest is central to understanding His redemptive work. Unlike the Levitical priests who offered animal sacrifices in an earthly tabernacle, Christ, as our great high priest, offers His own blood in the heavenly sanctuary. Hebrews 9:12 explains that by entering once into the Holy of Holies, He secured eternal redemption for His people. This marks a significant shift from the old covenant to the new, wherein Christ now intercedes for believers, assuring us of direct access to God. His priesthood is superior because it is eternal and fully satisfies God's justice on our behalf.
