Why is Christ's atoning sacrifice central in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's atoning sacrifice is central as it provides the only means for reconciliation between God and humanity.

In Christianity, the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ is paramount since it addresses the issue of sin and God's justice. According to Hebrews 9:22, without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Only through Christ's perfect and once-for-all sacrifice can sinners be justified and sanctified. The Old Testament sacrificial system was only a foreshadowing and could not truly cleanse, as highlighted in Hebrews 10:4. Instead, Christ, as our final and perfect high priest, offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice, thus fulfilling the law and allowing believers direct access to God through faith in Him. This centrality of His death and resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith.
