Why is Christ's divinity important for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's divinity ensures that His sacrifice is sufficient to atone for the sins of His people.

The divinity of Christ is foundational to the doctrine of salvation because only an infinite being can bear the full weight of God's wrath against sin. Hebrews 9:14 indicates that Christ, through the eternal Spirit, offered Himself without spot to God, thereby purging our consciences from dead works. If Jesus were merely a human, His sacrifice would be insufficient to secure the salvation of even one person. However, being very God of very God, He satisfies divine justice and makes perfect atonement. His resurrection serves as the assurance that God's acceptance of His sacrifice guarantees the justification of all whom the Father has given Him. In fulfilling this role, Christ's nature as both God and man is essential for the complete restoration of sinners.
