Why is Christ's mediatorial role important in the context of Exodus?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's role as mediator is essential as it allows believers to approach God, a privilege demonstrated through Moses in the Old Testament.

Moses serves as a type of Christ in Exodus, uniquely positioned to mediate between God and the people of Israel. In Exodus 24:2, it is noted that while Moses alone approached God, the others stood afar off. This separation illustrates the holiness of God and the fact that access to Him cannot be achieved through human effort or moral standing. Christ fulfills this role perfectly, as He entered into the true divine presence on our behalf through His sacrificial work. His mediation not only allows believers to enter into fellowship with God but also reflects the reality of having complete access to the Father, which was foreshadowed by Moses’s mediatorial work.
