Why is Christ's righteousness essential for believers?

Answered in 2 sources

Christ's righteousness is essential because it is the only acceptable covering before God for our sins.

The necessity of Christ's righteousness stems from our inherent sinfulness and inability to achieve righteousness on our own (Isaiah 64:6). The law cannot justify, as it merely highlights our failures. As mentioned, God provides a covering through the righteousness of Christ, which is imputed to believers so they can stand before Him justified (2 Corinthians 5:21). In Him, we have redemption and forgiveness, which assures our acceptance with God (Colossians 1:14). Ultimately, it is the righteousness of Christ that secures our place in the presence of God for eternity.
